Graduate Spotlight: Catherine Cantu

Meet Catherine, San Antonio native and first-generation college student receiving an Associate of Science Degree. During her time at St. Philip’s College, Catherine was named 2019's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Competitiveness Scholar which led to her participation in the 2019 National HBCU Week Conference held in Washington D.C. She also served as President of SPC’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society. While assisting the Natural Sciences Department she applied for the Student Engagement Scholarship, she explained that “the award presented many opportunities such as being a Community Based Work-Study, becoming an Alamo Colleges District Ambassador and serving as the Student Government Association Commissioner, PTK President and HBCU Competitiveness Scholar.” Catherine will be providing the Benediction Speech during the 2019 Commencement Ceremony on Friday, December 13. She looks forward to attending Texas A&M University and hopes to return to San Antonio to obtain her Physician Assistant License. Her ultimate career goal is to own a practice in the healthcare field. |
“I look forward to owning my clinic dedicated to cardiovascular disease, specifically tailored towards women. The last name Cantu will be a legacy worth following in Texas,” she says.
